I Love Wood Green
Mehmet Hassan is a professional photographer based in Wood Green. Shooting street photography for over ten years, Mehmet has an interest in capturing moments where people drop their guard amidst the bustle of city life.
Sharpening his skills in architectural photography, Mehmet progressed naturally to shooting at eye-level, preferring to photograph London life as it happened, unguarded.
'I find street photography intoxicating, a place where I lose myself, the only thought crossing my mind is the patterns of people crossing my path. When I'm shooting on the streets I am constantly scanning, watching and anticipating the movements of the crowd ready to fire off my shutter.
'I don't pretend that what I shoot is the full story, my photography is a construct of my mind and I consider each photo a self portrait.'
One of Mehmet's many projects is documenting Wood Green and beyond. Centred mainly around the Harringay area, capturing moments stretching up to the Holloway Road and circling back through Green Lanes.
Mehmet's Wood Green portfolio dates back to his earliest time as a street photographer, capturing moments we all recognise. 'Wood Green is probably me at my most raw. As a child of the area, I feel a degree of protection about the place. Wood Green is an ever evolving location, with a population that has long roots dating back decades. I feel it's always at the cusp of changing; it certainly isn't the same place I grew up in as a child.'
